Bambino Mio, the UK diaper sensation, is now available in the U.S.! What is Bambino Mio? It is a revolutionary hybrid diaper system, perfect for eco-conscious parents that crave the convenience of disposable diapers. Bambino Mio is a 3-part diaper system that includes a biodegradable (flushable) liner, a soft cotton cloth diaper or “nappy,” and a washable, leak-resistant cover.
The liner (which is optional, but we like it!) catches solid waste and allows moisture to pass through. The liner and solid waste can then be flushed down the toilet, so your laundry is not as disgusting as with traditional cloth diapers. The cloth diaper needs to be changed each time, but the cover can often be used several times before washing is necessary (of course, as with all diapers, accidents happen).
We were a little overwhelmed at first by all the parts and accessories offered by Bambino Mio. (They have their own line of wipes, laundry bags, etc. in addition to the different sized nappies and covers.) We found an all-in-one kit on Giggle.com which promises to include everything you need to take your child from newborn to potty training. The kit comes with 24 small and 24 large nappies and 16 covers in a range of sizes.
The drawback to this kit is that it does not include the liners, which as we mentioned before, are optional. They can be purchased separately on Giggle ($13 for a pack of 200). The kit also carries a hefty price tag of $500. If you are not completely sold on the diaper hybrid concept, you can be out a lot of money.
When we compared what is included with the kit to the purchase price of the contents (if you were to buy everything separately), we actually found that you are being charged an extra $15! If you bought everything in the kit separately, you would only spend $485! So, to sum up, don’t take the easy way out by purchasing the kit!
We recommend trying the Bambino Mio Diaper System–moms everywhere are raving about these nappies. The cloth diapers are much more comfortable on baby’s skin than disposable diapers, and the flushable liners are a great way to transition to an eco-friendly alternative. However, we recommend buying the bare minimum to try it out first.
