There are many benefits to carrying your baby close to you in a sling or baby carrier rather than using a stroller.  Research shows that babies who are carried:

  • Cry less
  • Are more alert and absorb information more quickly
  • Feel more secure and are less startled by loud noises
  • Hear more adult conversations, which promotes speech development
  • Bond more quickly with their parents

We have compiled a list of some of the best baby carriers on the internet today.

BabyBjorn Baby Carrier Original

Price: $55 to $80 (depending on color)
Weight Limit: 8 pounds to 25 pounds
Where to Buy:
Amazon.com

Why we love it: This is the most popular BabyBjorn on the market today.  It is easy to use, and it has wide straps to distribute baby’s weight.  Baby can face in or out.  Easily adjusts to fit both mom and dad.  The best part is that the BabyBjorn has a great two-part design so if your baby falls asleep you can remove him without waking him up.

Moby Wrap Original Baby Carrier

Price: $40
Weight Limit: Up to 35 pounds
Where to Buy:
Amazon.com

Why we love it: Since the Moby uses a wide piece of fabric that wraps around your back and shoulders, it is able to accomodate a heavier baby than the BabyBjorn and won’t cut into your shoulders.  There are no straps or buckles, so this carrier can be worn in several different ways. It also comes in a variety of colors to match your personal style.

Mei Tai Baby Carrier

Price: $72
Weight Limit: 5 pounds to 35 pounds
Where to Buy:
Amazon.com

Why we love it: We fell in love with the beautiful patterns on the Mei Tai carrier.  Then we discovered the carriers reverse to solid brown so dad can use it too!  Its 3-in-1 design lets you carry your baby on your front, back, or hip.

Ergo Baby Carrier

Price: $105 to $148 (depending on color)
Weight Limit: Up to 40 pounds
Where to Buy:
Amazon.com

Why we love it: This is your best bet if your baby is too big for a sling or if you need a carrier for longer periods of time, such as when you are hiking.  This carrier has a frame with added lumbar support for mom, but can be worn on the front or hip as well as the back.  The Ergo also features an attached “sleeping hood” to support baby’s head while she is sleeping.  This carrier will accommodate smaller infants as well, but you must purchase a separate infant insert. ($19, also available on Amazon)

Baby Carrier by Sleepy Wrap

Price: $40
Weight Limit: For newborns up to 18 months
Where to Buy: A Pea in the Pod

Why we love it: Similar to the Moby Wrap, this carrier from Sleepy Wrap is made up of very stretchy fabric that provides a custom fit for you and your baby.  It provides complete head, neck, back, and leg support and promotes proper development of the hips and spine.  While Sleepy Wrap does not specify a weight limit, many moms report carrying their babies up to two years old!
